The Alternative Way Receives the Liebster Award

3 months ago I officially launched this blog with the vision of helping professionals grow their career through travel. The Alternative Way exists to prove that no matter what job you have, you can travel for as long as you want if you put your mind to it and use the thousands of services that exist around the world.

I am proud to announce that I received the Liebster Award!

The Liebster Award

The Liebster Award is an award given to new bloggers to help strengthen links within the blogging community

Each blogger who accepts nominations from a fellow blogger must then nominate 5-10 bloggers that have less than 1000 followers. They should write a post regarding the award, which includes:

  • Thanking the previous blogger for nominating

  • Answer questions the previous blogger asked

  • Nominate 5-10 bloggers and ask them 10 questions

I was nominated by Travel Breakout, an up and coming travel blog you should totally look into! Thanks Michaela!!

The Alternative Way Interview

In an interview with Michaela from Travel Breakout, I answer some of her insightful questions.

What’s the first thing you do when you arrive somewhere new?

Marvel at the new sights and the street food. Then I find a hostel or hotel that will negotiate down to the price I am looking for.

What’s the hardest thing about travel blogging?

Having to continually post content, while marketing it, while building your brand, while creating new partnerships, while taking the perfect pictures, while being present on 5 different social media platform, while optimizing everything, while analyzing previous campaign results, while strategizing new campaign results, while implementing current campaigns. Hahaha as you can see I’d say it’s having to wear so many different hats on a day to day basis while trying to travel at the same time.

What’s the weirdest thing that has happened to you?

Weird things happen all the time. I’d say the most recent one was when I tried to buy a fish at a fish market in Sri Lanka. My girlfriend and I chose the fish, negotiated the price, and then when we went to pay he didn’t accept the money. So we thought he was giving it to us for free. We thanked him and walked away, feeling happy and amazed by the generosity of this man. 5 minutes later he showed by TukTuk requesting we pay him. Let’s just say it was an awkward situation hahaha.

What’s the first thing you do when you wake up in the morning?

Meditate. Then I make a list of things to accomplish for the day.

What’s the last thing you do before you go to sleep?

Think about what the best moment of my day was. Then often times I’ll watch One Piece!

If you were an animal what would you be and why?

Most likely a hummingbird. They are always on the go, like to discover new things, love to communicate with others, are helpful to their environment, and love to work hard and travel.

Why did you start blogging?

To inspire others to leave their comfort zone and pursue their passion through travel. Also to help others discover an alternative way that exists to live a life and do whatever it is you want to do 🙂

If you had to die your hair a different colour what would you pick?

Whatever colour is necessary to promote the social cause I would pick.

What song best describes your blog?

It would be more of a podcast then a song. Something funky and upbeat like this! 🙂

What advice do you give to other bloggers?

Don’t give up. It takes thousands of hours of blogging to gain a large enough following to feel like you are actually making a difference. Until then, never forget there are always larger fish, but also smaller fish.

You are someone’s secret idol.

  • Congrats on winning an award already! I’m much like you when I arrive somewhere new– I try to take it all in and then go directly for the food! It sounds like we have similar travel styles.

    • Haha I can only imagine from your travel blog name!! We should meet up sometime if you are in South East Asia between February and May 🙂

  • Oh wow, got to know about this award from you ‘The Liebster Award’. What a fantastic way to encourage bloggers! I wish someone would nominate me too for this award :-/
But congrats to you! You are doing a great job! 🙂

  • Congrats on this milestone. Enjoy your time in Vietnam. Try as much food as possible and share your stories once your travel is done!

  • I love reading Liebster Awards, you learn so much about people in just a few questions! Love your discipline to mediate first thing in the morning – it’s something to aspire to but I always end up taking the extra 5 mins in bed (I’m so not a morning person!)

  • Congratulations for the award, and keep up the nice work here on your blog! Your questions are very good, especially the one with the song that best describes a certain blog.

  • I actually had no idea what this award was and have seen lots of people talking about it, and now I know! Super helpful, and I love the hummingbird answer to which animal you’d want to be!

  • Many congratulations on winning the Liebster Award. The questions seem so simple on the face of it, but when you sit down to write the answers, it really make you think, don’t you agree?

  • One great thing about Liebster award is that you get to know your fellow bloggers better. Have a great year!

Congratulations on winning your Liebster Award! I think this is a great way of learning more about other bloggers and I can totally identify with what’s the hardest thing about travel blogging, but in the end, I guess we all must feel it’s worth it because we still continue to write 😀 The best thing about it is meeting other awesome bloggers – it’s such a friendly community! On that note, I’m going to tweet this big news about your award to shout out about your achievement! Happy New Year to you!
