Best Freelance Websites For Engineers 1920 1080 Joaquim Miro

The following list can also be useful for designers and other other people that want to freelance.

Interested in traveling as an engineer? There are many ways to make money on the road using your engineering skillsets. Rather than going out to teach English for a year, why not grow your career through travel? This allows you to experience the best of both worlds.

There are many great freelance websites for engineers, as well as other resources to help you on the road. Here are a few of my favourite.

Best Freelance Websites For Engineers

Landing.jobs

If you are a software engineer Landing.jobs is one of the best platforms to work with. The company is based out of Lisbon, comprised of motivated individuals that truly care about their freelancers.

TopTotal

If you are a great software engineer, this is the platform for you. TopTotal only accepts about 3% of the freelancers who apply, boasting amazing talent. This is one of the best freelance websites for engineers as you get high paying contracts in an endless pool of opportunity. It pays well to be good at what you do!

CADCrowd

Freelance 3D design, modelling and drafting. CADCrowd great as it’s specifically for people looking with specialized skills like the ones you may have.

Hubstaff Talent

This brand new platform offers freelancers the opportunity to find high quality gigs for free. Hubstaff Talent focuses mainly on remote work opportunities, so this is a great option to find professional short to medium-term contracts.

LinkedIn ProFinder

Surprisingly still unknown to most freelancers, LinkedIn ProFinder allows you to find local freelancers with any specialty in almost every industry. It’s a very powerful tool so if you can boost your LinkedIn profile you will have an advantage.

People Per Hour

What I love about People Per Hour is that they treat their freelancers like people rather than service providers. The interface is great, the percentage they take is acceptable, and the jobs are often more wholesome. This is why I believe this is one of the best freelance websites for engineers.

SimplyHired

What differentiates Simply Hired from most other platforms is the power of their search tool. Search for the jobs you want and finding them will be very easy. There’s a lot of competition though so make sure to have a strong profile beforehand.

Upwork

Upwork is one of the easiest and fastest growing freelance platforms. They bought out Elance and many other freelance platforms, putting all the jobs in one place. You can expect over 400 engineering jobs at any given time. I would say this is one of the best freelance websites for engineers, if it weren’t for this one negative aspect. This company takes a 20% cut of anything you make, which I find is downright theft. Hopefully this will change soon as the entire community is crying out about it – including me. Time Doctor also has an interesting review about this platform which you can find here.

Guru

What’s nice about Guru is the ease of use. Although they don’t have as any engineering offerings, they do have a pretty impressive selection.

Find Software Engineering Jobs Abroad

Freelancer

As one of the largest and oldest freelance platforms around, you can expect to find some cool jobs on Freelancer. These are more entry-level contracts usually, and the competition is fiercer than anywhere else on the freelance web.

StaffExchange

By being active on Staff Exchange you can get your name out as a credible source and industry leader. While this may not directly get you a job, it is a good idea to get you involved in the community and grow your network. You never know what could come out of it.

99Designs

This platform is more for designers, but if you have great design and coding skills and want to develop some nice templates, 99Designs is a great place to sell them. This type of website is the best for software engineers.

Another great website to sell templates and scripts would be the Envato Market.

Angel List

You can apply as a contractor for start ups through Angel List. This is a great alternative to applying for freelance jobs as the contracts will usually be more long term and provide you with more opportunities to join the start up after the completion of your contracts.
