Great Resources for Worldwide Travel Nursing
Helpx.net
Help Exchange (HelpX not Helpex)
is a listing website of hosts who invite volunteer helpers to stay with them in exchange for food and accommodation. If you want meet locals while gaining practical experience as a travel nurse, this might be it!
Helpx affords you the opportunity to learn about a country, meet new people and provide free healthcare. Typically, you only work a few hours a day and spend the rest of the day exploring your new environment.
If you want to browse more worldwide travel nursing opportunities through Helpx, here are a few.
Workaway.info
Through this website, you can arrange for a visit ranging from a few days to a few months. This website is very similar to HelpX, giving you a direct line to families and organizations that need help.
WWOOF
Just like Helpx, World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farms (WWOOF or Willing Workers on Organic Farms) involves volunteer travel nurses visiting small communities throughout the world. If this concept interests you, here is an article I wrote specifically about WWOOFing.

Feel like doing good while working abroad? This is one of the best websites to find jobs that make a social impact. As a traveling nurse you will have many opportunities available through this resource!
For example they are currently looking for a diabetes nurse in Papua New Guinea!

If you are under 30 years old, this is a great option for you! As an Au Pair you will take care of kids abroad.
“An au pair is an unmarried young adult aged 18 to 30 years, who has no children and travels to a foreign country for a defined period of time to live with a host family. The au pair is considered as a full member of the family during the entire stay. As such, he or she helps the family with childcare and [helps with] light household tasks. In return, the host family provides free board and lodging, as well as pocket money.” – Au Pair World
As a certified nurse you will immediately be on the top of everyone’s list, allowing you to live in extremely nice places such as a mansion in France, or a private resort in the Caribbeans.
Make Income on Your House through AirBnB or CHBO
AirBnb
While working as a worldwide travel nurse, why not earn some money on the side? Since some of the options above won’t earn you a salary (Helpx and the likes), one way to make an income while pursuing your adventure is to rent out your apartment space.
You can simply register on Airbnb and earn some income while on the road. If you want to learn more, read How to Make Money with Airbnb: Risks & Rewards.
Corporate Housing By Owner (CHBO)
You can also make money while you are on your journey to becoming a travel nurse. Simply sign up on the Corporate Housing by Owner website and list your house. Those interested in renting your space will contact you.
I met someone who was making $2000 USD per month using this platform. She was living on less than $1000 USD per month abroad, allowing her to travel for as long as she wanted!
Become a nursing-blogger
Your knowledge can help people around the world.
First and foremost, you can showcase your knowledge on specific subjects, giving you a portfolio to showcase when you apply for new jobs, grants, or opportunities.
Secondly, through blogging you can build a niche website around a particular interest that only a select few know about. You can then generate enough income through ads, affiliate links and other partnerships, allowing you to travel and work full-time simultaneously (like I am doing!).
Finally, you will learn a new set of skills to compliment your existing ones, making you more valuable to employers. Your thoughts will become more coherent and your network will grow along with your toolbelt.
If you already have a blog, I recommend going professional. After signing up to this course run by the New York Times Bestselling author Nomadic Matt, I learned how to make a business out of blogging. Instead of wasting hours figuring it out yourself, learn all the tricks early on and join a community of successful bloggers. For $400, I think it’s one of the best investments you can make!
